Marks ARE IMPORTANT
Post-secondary admission is determined on the basis of:
- Marks • Courses taken in Grade 12
- English Proficiency requirements
- Portfolio, where applicable
Awards, letters of commendation, or recognition by school for effort, although important, are not determining factors for admission.
Universities and post-secondary institutions across Canada require a minimum average to apply for a program or specific faculty:
- Institutes generally require a minimum average of 60%
- Colleges generally require a minimum average of 65%
- Universities generally require a minimum average of 70%.
- Business, Engineering, Pharmacy, Honors and specialization programs generally require a minimum average of 80%.
Achieving a minimum average does not guarantee admission into a post-secondary institution. Many programs, such as those set out below, also require a pre-professional year:
- Agriculture
- Business
- Occupational Therapy
- Drama
- Dentistry
- Criminology
Students with a high school diploma from their native country may be required to complete a pre-university program. If you have eleven years of basic education, a pre-university program for most universities and colleges is mandatory. |
