Golden Hills School Division offers a Fast Track pre-university program for students to gain entry into their choice of technical school, college or university. The Fast Track program is designed to assist students in meeting admission requirements for post-secondary education in:
Alberta and all other provinces in Canada
USA
Great Britain
Australia
Students are eligible to take five Grade 12 courses in either a high school setting or an adult education setting. Course selection is based on the student's long-term goals and the faculty of their choice.
MANDATORY COURSES:
English 30
Social Studies 30
Mathematics 30
and a selection of two of the following:
Mathematics 31
Biology 30
Chemistry 30
Physics 30
Art 30
Drama 30
French 30
PROGRAM DATES
The Fast Track program runs for seven months:
February 1 to August 30
MARKS ARE IMPORTANT
Post-secondary admission is determined on the basis of:
Marks
Courses taken in Grade 12
English Proficiency requirements
Portfolio where applicable
Awards, letters of commendation, or recognition by school for effort, although important, are not determining factors for admission.
Universities and post-secondary institutions across Canada require a minimum average to apply for a program or specific faculty.
Institutes generally require a minimum average of 60%
Colleges generally require a minimum average of 65%
Universities generally require a minimum average of 70%
Business, Engineering, Pharmacy, Honors and specialization programs generally require a minimum average of 80%
Achieving a minimum average does not guarantee admission into a
post-secondary institution.

ENGLISH PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENTS
Students do not need a TOEFL score to be eligible for the admission to the Fast Track program. However, students must meet English proficiency requirements to enter post-secondary institutions in Canada. Along with their application to a post-secondary institution, students are required to submit competitive grades in one of the accepted English as a Second Language tests, such as:
MELAB
TOEFL
CAEL
ILETS
Students needing ESL support in the Fast Track program will need additional time and costs will be accessed according to their ESL placement. |
