Canadian Education ranks among the best in the world
Canada tops the world, again!
The Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) facilitates the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA).
Every three years, it assesses how far students near the end of compulsory education have acquired some of the knowledge and skills essential for full participation in society. The most recent statistics are from the 2006 assessment. Three literacy domains are assessed: Mathematics, Reading and Science. 2009 PISA results will be released in December, 2010.
According to Statistics Canada, regarding the 2006 results:
"Canadian 15-year-old students still are among the best in the world when it comes to science, reading and mathematics, according to new results from an international study that assesses the skill level of students nearing the end of their compulsory education.
Results from the 2006 Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), a collaborative effort among member countries of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), show that Canadian students performed well in all three domains relative to their international peers. In other words, Canada has retained its high standards since 2003, when PISA was last conducted."
On all three scales, mathematics, science and reading; Canada ranks statistically significantly above the OECD average.
OECD offers a breakdown of all the results on their website as well.
