Students staying in homestay families usually arrive late August and stay for either one or two semesters. (Aug 30-Jan 31) or (Feb 1-June 29) or for the whole year.
Homestay parents will pick up the student at the airport, and welcome him/her into their home. They provide them all the support and guidance they would their own child. They also supply the student with their own bedroom, with a desk, dresser and bed. The homestay family provides 3 meals and 2 snacks a day.
Golden Hills International Services requires homestay family parents submit an RCMP and Alberta Child Welfare check. This will assurest the family members, the students are being placed in safe warm homes.
The students are responsible for all their own personal expenditures. They will purchase their own clothes, books, personal supplies etc. If they want to take part in an activity like hockey for example, they are required to absorb the costs themselves.
